Classical concert coming up
After a couple of difficult years when singing was prohibited, we were delighted to be able to present a Christmas concert to a large and appreciative audience in Coggeshall Church in December 2021.
The Kelvedon Singers started rehearsing again on 10th January 2022. This term we are turning our attention to music from the Classical period by three masters of composition – Handel, Mozart and Hummel.
George Frideric Handel’s Four Coronation Anthems were composed for George II in 1727, and we have chosen the glorious third “The King shall Rejoice”, appropriate, perhaps, in our own Monarch’s Platinum Jubilee year.
From Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart we will sing his beautiful ‘Vesperae Solennes de Confessore K339” composed in 1780.
The largest work comes from the less-well known, but equally brilliant Johann Nepomuk Hummel. A pupil of Mozart in his early years, he eventually took over from Haydn as Konzertmeister to Prince Esterhazy. An admirer of Beethoven, his music moved forward towards the Romantic era while being heavily influenced by the Classical. We will be singing his Mass in D, composed in 1804.
Date and venue for this concert yet to be confirmed.
